Every winter, I feel like it has gotten colder than the year before. Perhaps it is because every year, I get older and my metabolism slows down. This year, I decided to figure out how to stay warm in bed. My blankets are not any warmer and I didn't want to change blankets so I decided to try other ways. Here is what I tried and what seemed to work for me.
Warmer pajamas: I am used to wearing shorts and a t-shirt to bed. Or, sometimes, I'll wear a sexy camisole for my husband and I to enjoy. This winter, I tried wearing long sleeve pajamas. I actually tried different kinds. First, I tried the flannel pajamas. They were extremely warm and I felt good all night. The only thing was that I didn't get to feel the softness of my down blanket against my body - something that I really enjoy. Also, I didn't feel as attractive going to bed, something that I like to feel as well, especially with my husband sleeping next to me. Next, I tried wearing these silk pajamas. They definitely felt soft to the touch, but weren't as warm as the flannel. It still worked better than a camisole or shorts and a t-shirt.
Heated blanket: Although I love my blankets, I decided to add a heated blanket underneath them just for my body. The heated blanket worked too well. I was almost too hot and my husband and I were afraid of starting a fire in the middle of the night since the blanket had to be plugged in. While this option was good, I decided I would just use it for times when I am sitting on the couch and reading and need some extra warmth. I'm keeping the blanket, but am not going to use it to go to sleep.
Cashmere bed socks: This was another option recommended to me by a friend. At first, when she mentioned it, I had no idea what cashmere bed socks were. I learned that they are specific socks that you can buy to wear to bed. Of course, you don't have to buy these socks and you can always just wear any pair of cotton socks to bed, but these are made especially to keep your feet warm all night. I actually tried wearing these with my shorts and t-shirt and found that it made a huge difference in how warm I felt. Surprisingly, these worked really well and I didn't have to fear a fire or change what I normally wore. Of course wearing socks to bed felt a little foreign to me at first, but eventually I got used to it.
Thus, I'm keeping with the cashmere bed socks and forgetting about the other things I tried.
